About the Artist

Jaume Plensa Suñé (Barcelona, ​​August 23, 1955) is a Spanish visual artist, sculptor, and printmaker. A highly versatile artist, he has also experimented with drawing, opera set design, video projections, and sound installations. He is known for his large sculptures made of letters and numbers, and also for his heads with closed eyes.

Born in Barcelona in 1955, he studied at the Llotja School and the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts.

In his early work, he reflected an interest in issues related to volume, space, and tension. In 1983-1984, he began shaping iron using the casting technique and developed a sculptural concept of zoomorphic forms using cuts and folds. In 1986, he began working with cast iron, and later incorporated glass, resin, light, and sound. Since 1996, he has also dedicated himself to creating elements and sets for opera and theater productions, primarily in collaboration with the La Fura dels Baus company. He is also a skilled draftsman and printmaker.
